Qik was founded in June 2006 to enable mobile phone users to share live video with their friends, family and followers. The first Qik service was launched in 2008, and is now available in over 160 countries on almost 200 different phones across the Android, iPhone, Symbian, Blackberry and Windows Mobile platforms.
In January 2011, Qik was acquired by Skype.
The Qik Difference
Most days, the Qik team is working around the clock on their patent-pending, “Smart Streaming” platform, which brings a lot of intelligence to the hard challenge of transmitting videos over mobile wireless networks. Qik’s goal is to offer the most flexible solution so that individuals can focus on capturing great moments knowing they’ll be able to:
Share with anyone — across handsets, platforms, carriers and networks
From wherever — reliable transmissions over 3G, 4G or wifi networks
View whenever — show videos LIVE or anytime later
Capture Forever — automatically preserve precious and irreproducible moments
