Turn your iPhone 2G and 3G into a video camera with Qik VideoCamera

After releasing Qik Live, which lets you share your experience live from any iPhone, we received feedback from a number of iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G owners that they’d like an easy way to record high quality videos locally and play them from the Camera Roll – just like the iPhone 3GS.

Qik VideoCamera, which is now available from the Apple App Store, does just that. It turns your iPhone 2G and 3G into a video camera that lets you:

  • Record videos with 352×288 resolution.
  • Export your videos to the Camera Roll, edit them and play them right from there
  • Upload and synchronize your videos with iPhoto – just by connecting your iPhone to your computer

Leveraging Qik’s award-winning encoding techniques and optimizations, Qik VideoCamera delivers the best frame rate and video resolution on iPhone 2G/3G while using much less space for storing your videos.

So if you have an iPhone 2G or 3G, download Qik VideoCamera and start recording high quality videos for only $0.99.

As usual, let us know your thoughts and comments by emailing us at support@qik.com.

    I think it's H264 compression. Cool

iVideoCamera just submitted an update to apple for approval with 10fsp. I like Qik VideoCamera better and would like to see you guys do the same ASAP. :) . Any comments?

It would be great if you could record the videos in landscape. Is that possible in a future update?

  10. Marcus says:

    Very nice.

Something very useful would be to have a more flexible export. Currently you can only export to camera roll and from there you don't seem to be able to even email an image.

How about the ability to push to youtube/flickr/etc..?

I have Qik Live running successfully on an iPhone 3G, but it took a bit of head-scratching to figure out how to operate it. The UI is not complex, but not obvious either. The streaming function is not obvious either (“Stay connected” is not an adequate explanation). I know a couple of people who installed Qik live, believing that they could stream live from iPhone to iPhone. We eventually realized that remote viewing friends can only watch live video if they log into the website, but that they cannot watch live streams with an iPhone. If that is possible, we have not figured out how to do it.

I know other people who tried the app, and gave up on it after a few minutes of frustration (these folks are not stupid, either). A little bit of documentation, or a bit more UI feedback would help. I'm also a bit puzzled by the distinction between Qik Live and Qik VideoCamera. I can shoot a video with Qik Live and watch it immediately on my iPhone. How does Qik VideoCamera do this differently?

How can I export the video from the camera roll to my facebook account, I can do that with quik live but the option is not available on the qik camera app?? maybe it s and I havený figured it out yet..

I'm a little confused, apple does not allow iPhone 3G and 2G to record video? So is this for jailbroken iPhones?

  14. ecedano06 says:

your iphone dont need to be jailbroken
