Qik now available for download from the iPhone App Store

Ho Ho Ho!!

Well, the wait is finally over! Qik has been approved by Apple and is now available in the iPhone App Store – yay!! We are really excited that this approval came just in time for the holidays so you can share your holiday moments – LIVE from your mobile phone.

The app, called Qik Live (version 4.40), on the iPhone works on all the iPhones (iPhone 2g, iPhone 3g, and iPhone 3gs) and on all networks (3G and WiFi) enabling you to share what you are seeing with your friends, family and the world!

Share what you are seeing with your favorite social networks.
Share your Qiks with your favorite social networks, like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and others right from the phone. Just tap the middle of the screen after you have completed the video and press “Share”.

Share the experience privately only with people who matter.
Just tap the screen before recording and set the video to private. You can then share these videos via email and SMS only to people you want to send this too.

Show your location.
The Qik application on the iPhone is location-enabled, letting you friends track you live as you Qik. If you don’t want to show your location you can always turn this off from the Settings.

So, go ahead and download Qik Live from the App Store, start sharing your holiday moments and let us know what you think. Further, couple this with Qik-in-Touch and your friends and family will see you instantly from their desktop – the moment you go live from your iPhone.  More information about Qik-in-Touch can be found here.

app works great, but are you not supposed to be allowed to have the chat dialog while you are recording? It works fine when there is no recording going on?

  2. kosso says:

At last! Well done!! Great news, since you guys were the first to even work out a way to do it in the first place! :)

Just posted the news to the Phreadz Tech channel :

Will the jailbroken version be updated to have the new GUI and features of the app store version?

  4. Yes, finally, I've been holiding back jailbreaking just for this moment! Thanks, Apple and of course qik!

  5. Bradaus says:

    that is great news woowhoo

  6. Qik is now available to download from the iPhone App Store.

  7. terppa says:

i want qik to AUTOMATICALLY update my facebook status when I go live!! thats a must have feature but still neither Qik nor Ustream has this simple functionality!!!

  8. Park says:

I have this same question. When I hit the record button to go live, all the stream info disappears and so does the chat option. Isn't the whole point that you're supposed to be able to chat live FROM the iPhone app?

  9. djames says:

I have been using the Qik version for unlocked iPhone for months and I have no problem will the app updating my Facebook status automatically.

  10. Alright cool iPhone has a dope app, But what about us Android users? Where is the love for us yea you have an Andorid app but its not as cool as the iPhones app. Will you be adding the chat feature to ours anytime soon?

  11. Matt says:

Any news on if this is a bug or if it is like that since they are using a screen capture API as opposed to reading directly off of the camera for the video

  12. Wes says:

Same problem. I love Qik, but for some reason on my 3G iPhone when I live stream all of the chat and options go away.

I'm so glad qik is finally out for non jailbroken 2g iphones but is there any way to change the screen resolution? What's wierd is, when i'm not recording I see the entire view of my iphone but when I hit record, the screen is sliced in half. Not the way I remember this app working on my jailbroken iphone. How can I get the entire view?

  15. mmelnick says:

Yeah the chat feature is definitely broken. The 1/2 of the screen working/low resolution or rather, having 1/2 the screen black where the chat is supposed to be is annoying, but at least it works. Hopefully tech support from qik is reading this (wishful thinking lol) and will fix both these issues and release an update.

i was excited to read that this was finally approved for the itunes appstore…but after reading all of this…it seems that i have no reason at all to stop using the jailbroken version since the “real version” is crippled and not working properly. can anyone report on the quality of the video on the app store version as opposed to the jailbroken ver? the only problem with the jailbroken ver is that i cannot for the life of me preview the videos on my phone after i record them…just sits on a black screen – my buddy can view his no problem…so i never figured that out and was psyched to get an “official” app store version. oh well…such is life right?

  17. Joel says:

A workaround for this is have it send an update to Twitter and have your Twitter status automatically linked to your Facebook status. That works for me.

  18. ronlarsh says:

How does a person “delete” a video? I just added this to my iPhone and was testing. I would like to delete the useless videos recorded.

  19. Matt says:

The app store version is actually very nice. Video quality is great, streams at a high rate, and is more polished in my opinion then the JB version overall. There just seems to be a minor bug with the chat. This may be a limit imposed by apple, however. It's definitely worth trying out. I love it. I've quit jailbreaking because of its release.

  20. dice1976 says:

what is the real main difference between the App Store qik and Jailbreak Qik? Is there a difference? I have jailbreak qik- is it worth it to remove the JB one and go with the App store official Qik ?

  21. Matt says:

Although i havent used the most recent build of the JB qik, i see little to no difference between the two versions. It seems some users are experiencing some issues with the chat while they are streaming in the app store version, but the best thing to do would be to just download both and decide for yourself what you like.

  22. metaneon says:

i just switched from android to iphone. android had much better options, like inviting people as u record. i have problem with overall site though. it gets glitchy & sometimes my videos that i filed, are missing, then comes back another time. i'm debating if i should keep this or go with ustream. for me qik's stream was faster. & i wish chatting worked while recording from both ends as well. overall pretty good app.

  23. xelence says:

Just got here… spare me a few min…!

  28. robvdhoed says:

I don't see the chat function

Sweet! I just downloaded both finally, wish I could use the videocamera one to send sms, but it doesn't recognize as an item if you try to attach it sms.
