Qik for Android Updated: Capture in high resolution on Nexus One, Motorola Milestone

Earlier today, Qik for Android was updated. Apart from a number of performance fixes and battery life improvement, this update (version 0.1.89) includes:

Record and share videos in high resolution

With this version we are raising the bar on quality – again! You can now record and share WVGA resolution videos (800×480) on Nexus One. e first introduced the ability to capture DVD resolution videos (720×480) on the Droid back in December and are now excited to extend that to the Motorola Milestone. The high resolution can be selectively set from the Settings in the Qik application.

Capture in portrait mode on Nexus One

All you do is turn the phone around and start recording, it is as simple as that.

Share with your favorite contacts with a single click

Your favorite contacts are now automatically available in the Speed Sharing Ribbon(TM) so that you can share your videos via SMS or email just a single click. The Speed Sharing area also displays the social networks that you have already configured, such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

So…give the new update a try and let us know what do you think in the comments or by sending an email to android@qik.com.

I love that I can share with facebook… but I don't love that I can't share while recording in real time. It posts the video after I'm done recording. That's no fun! I can record a video on my phone and post it to facebook just as easily! I want people to be able to see exactly what I'm seeing as it's happening on facebook and twitter. I tested the share button while recording, it only uploads after the recording is finished.

I'd like a live streaming video for my friends on facebook to click. If u do this, I will use qik more often.

Dear Anthony. We have facebook application for livestreaming. Go to your profile on facebook,
click applicaitons, search for qik, then choose qik video. This widget will be able to show live video when you streaming.

    Thank you!

  4. I'm running qik 0.1.89 on stock milestone firmware 2.0 and my videos don't look dvd quality at all, you can check on qik.com/shadydude

  6. The milestone is the gsm version of droid, it's the same camera.

Is there a way to enable Portrait in Droid as well?

  8. Ro says:

how do I get the update in my nexus one?

  9. John says:

Motorola Droid, Qik version 0.1.89. Quality options listed as 'Normal' and 'High'.

I'm unsure how to update. When I search Market, it lists Qik as already installed, with no option to update, only to uninstall.

I don't recall whether I recently approved an automated update. How do I tell if I'm updated or not? Am I supposed to uninstall and reinstall the app? Will a reinstall cause me to lose my current Qik account?

I have the right version (0.1.89) on my nexus one and my videos are not DVD quality. Is there any problem with the app? Should I uninstall and install again?

  11. Jer says:

Does this have audio with the video? Having the problem using the built-in video recorder that is does not capture audio with the video, unless I'm doing something wrong (always a poss.)…

  12. Kristianne says:

I love the updates. I'm wondering if there's anyway to save these videos- either to my facebook account or my computer- rather than just sharing them…. Is the only way to access these videos again and again through the qik website? I have the droid eris. Thank you!
