Experience the new Qik. Now available on the Sprint 4G Network.

Today we are introducing an exciting new version of Qik Video, which will be available on the new Sprint HTC EVO 4G. Qik Video brings a powerful set of video capabilities to your mobile phone so you can share and experience events as they happen, even if you can’t be there. With Qik, you can attend a meeting across the country and feel like you are truly there, watch your child’s performance LIVE on your mobile phone, or pick up a video mail message from a friend who wants to share an exciting adventure.

You can download the new Qik for the Sprint HTC EVO 4G directly from the Android Market.  Keep reading for an exciting launch offer of the new Qik Video.

Here’s what’s included in the all new Qik:

New! Mobile video chat without boundaries

Video chatting with Qik is amazingly simple. Just start Video Chat from the Qik app, select the person from your phone address book and that’s it! If the person you are inviting has the Qik app on their phone, their phone rings and with a single click both of you are video chatting away. If the other person does not have the Qik app on their phone, they’ll receive an SMS with a link to watch the video live on their mobile browser.

Cool tips:

  • You can toggle between the front and back camera within the same session. So, with a single tap, you can go from showing your face to showing the world around you.
  • Every video is also automatically archived as a private video on your Qik account. Its like having your video chat history at your finger tips.
  • From the list of contacts to call you can even search for someone’s Qik username to connect to them directly.

New! Send video mail to anyone – right from your phone

Sometimes you just want to leave a video message for someone and have the peace of mind that they’ll be able to view the message no matter what device or phone network they are on. If the person you are sending to is a Qik user – they’ll see the message in their inbox and their activity feed. If they are not a Qik user, they’ll receive an SMS with a link to the video mail.

Qik video camera – record, share, go live

This is the Qik functionality you are used to. This enables you to record, share and go live to your favorite social networks (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace), video sites (e.g. YouTube, Livestream, Brightcove, VMIX), blogs (e.g. Blogger, WordPress, TypePad, Tumblr, Posterous) and very soon to your favorite IMs. Click the big “Record” button in the main screen to get into this mode. Then once you are in the viewfinder – click the big red button to start streaming live to your friends anywhere!

Cool tip: You don’t have to always go live! You can record to your local device memory just by clicking the indicator button on the top-left corner.

New! My Videos – all your mobile videos in a single place

Go to “My Videos” in the Qik app to view both the local videos taken with your phone as well as your Qik videos in a single place. From here you can upload your local videos to Qik and even share any of the videos to your favorite social network or via email and SMS.

After I updated the app to the correct app for the Evo the videos will not upload????

  2. Aarkan says:

I'm still having the issue of not getting the sms message to verify my phone. My mom and my phone both registered under the original qik that came with our EVO 4G's and we can't video chat but on the 3 other phones we got for the rest of our family which we registered with the Qik for EVO 4G app are able to video chat. Would you be able to resolve this issue or email me and let me send you the two numbers that still need to be verified? One is the one under my account and the other is my mom's. Thank you very much for all of your help I really look forward to using your app to its full potential.

  3. Whatever says:

I'm offended by the price of this app. Generally, when a person buys something, they get something for it but this app really sucks. It's blurry, it's jerky and WAY too much buffering (stop and go). And the quality of the video is only “great” if the viewer is also subscribing to the “greater” quality version of the app. BOO!!!

  31. Bryantbrown20 says:

This is B.S. I can't even verify my mobile number because I cannot receive the verification sms. What gives? What do I have to do?

  32. Manikey says:

Impressive App…Little choppy but there is no 4G in my market area yet…Sister had the no audio Problem at first…but now is working fine…dont know how she fixed it…

  33. David Tigue says:

I think the 5 per month is a bit much. Have you thought about offering a yearly like $20. Not nearly as much but much more likely to get more premium users. I think $20 is the sweet spot for most things. That’s why you constantly see infomercials for $19.99. Because people are willing to part with a mere 20 dollars.

  34. captjim says:

This is cool, my EVO worked out of the box. I am still trying to figure out how to start a qik call. All I see from the app is the ability to perform the video upload, cant find the link to start a video call? I’ll keep looking, I am sure I will find it.

  35. Malachi says:

Everytime I choose a contact to video chat with, it tells me that i’m not “connected to Qik Server”…I don’t know what to do. Please help!

  36. toddkiernan says:

Everytime I try to connect to a friend (iPhone 4 user), nothing happens. He gets a text message the reads “could not coennect to web server”. What’s the deal?

  37. DiamondJim says:

This is fantastic – it’s like some kind of Dick Tracy futuristic device.

  38. I’m generally not the kind of person to submit my opinion on other’s blogs, but for this article I simply had to do it. I have been digging through your site a lot recently and I’m super impressed, I think you might potentially emerge as one of the main opinions for this topic. Not sure what your load is like in life, but if you began devoting more effort to posting here, I’d bet you would start getting a mass of visitors soon. With ads, it could emerge as a sweet reserve income stream. Just a concept to think about. Good luck!

  39. Jason Martin says:

Just for clarification. When will the ‘premium features’ all work? I am wondering specifically about the ‘upload and share videos recorded wit the native camera’ part.

Also as an HTC Evo user. . . will i start being charged $5 a month once the free premium expires? Is this automatically charged to my bill?

  40. patricia says:

I have to say it, this is awesome!! I love it…. It works great, n I’m closer to my baby… yeyyyy thanks qik n evo….

  41. Rick Vallejo says:

Like to see a video editor…nothing fancy but something to cut out short clips and then resplice remaining video…other than that…this is a great product…using on EVO with Android 2.2….many thanks

  42. Allyson says:

You will not be charged automatically. You will have the option to opt-in to premium services in the future.

  43. Chris says:

My wife & I also have the EGO 4G and it works fine in 3G. Should be killer once 4G hits my area by end of the year!

  44. Ron says:

There is a fee for this service?? The iPhone does it for free

  45. Erald says:

Please fix for Samsung Epic 4G video chat.
    Thank you.

  46. zipnoff says:

EVO 4G – I can’t get the dual camera thing to work. it’s either front or back camera. Is that good ONLY on phone to phone chat?

  47. Rob says:

The app was having it’s difficulties but seems to be functioning properly, with the ability to send video to websites.

The only issue now is with the phone book contacts. If you have more than one number, home, cell, work. The app uses the home number as the main number for sending messages and SMS. It should be the mobile number. Also, the app lacks the ability to enter a mobile number manually on the fly, say 555-555-5555 if I don’t have the person’s number in my contacts. Minor oversights, but a key issue that should be looked into.

All in all, with the minor irritation from the contacts issue a wonderful application on my HTC EVO 4G.

  48. Michelle says:

I just got the qik for evo app and it shows I am a premium member. Now I see that a premium member is $4.99/mo? Will I be charged for this and if so how, to my bill??? I don’t want to pay for this especially since I am the only person I know with an evo that video chat will work with…..

  49. Lucille says:

I am using the new Epic from sprint which is only six days old. I love this phone. I tried Qik this morning with not so great results. The was this weird shrill that was not my tv or my dogs or even me! lol Mat be I am doing something wrong. I will experiement a little further. Pretty nifty idea through!!!

  50. Mike says:

This app doesn’t work the way it is advertised. The whole webchat aspect of the EVO was the reason I bought the phone, but only after the several hours I spent trying to get it to work properly, I’m contemplating deleting it from the phone. This app is terrible! They need to get it to work as advertised or close down the operation.
