Turn your iPhone 2G and 3G into a video camera with Qik VideoCamera

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

After releasing Qik Live, which lets you share your experience live from any iPhone, we received feedback from a number of iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G owners that they’d like an easy way to record high quality videos locally and play them from the Camera Roll – just like the iPhone 3GS.

Qik VideoCamera, which is now available from the Apple App Store, does just that. It turns your iPhone 2G and 3G into a video camera that lets you:

  • Record videos with 352×288 resolution.
  • Export your videos to the Camera Roll, edit them and play them right from there
  • Upload and synchronize your videos with iPhoto – just by connecting your iPhone to your computer

Leveraging Qik’s award-winning encoding techniques and optimizations, Qik VideoCamera delivers the best frame rate and video resolution on iPhone 2G/3G while using much less space for storing your videos.

So if you have an iPhone 2G or 3G, download Qik VideoCamera and start recording high quality videos for only $0.99.

As usual, let us know your thoughts and comments by emailing us at support@qik.com.

Qik now available for download from the iPhone App Store

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Ho Ho Ho!!

Well, the wait is finally over! Qik has been approved by Apple and is now available in the iPhone App Store – yay!! We are really excited that this approval came just in time for the holidays so you can share your holiday moments – LIVE from your mobile phone.

The app, called Qik Live (version 4.40), on the iPhone works on all the iPhones (iPhone 2g, iPhone 3g, and iPhone 3gs) and on all networks (3G and WiFi) enabling you to share what you are seeing with your friends, family and the world!

Share what you are seeing with your favorite social networks.
Share your Qiks with your favorite social networks, like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and others right from the phone. Just tap the middle of the screen after you have completed the video and press “Share”.

Share the experience privately only with people who matter.
Just tap the screen before recording and set the video to private. You can then share these videos via email and SMS only to people you want to send this too.

Show your location.
The Qik application on the iPhone is location-enabled, letting you friends track you live as you Qik. If you don’t want to show your location you can always turn this off from the Settings.

So, go ahead and download Qik Live from the App Store, start sharing your holiday moments and let us know what you think. Further, couple this with Qik-in-Touch and your friends and family will see you instantly from their desktop – the moment you go live from your iPhone.  More information about Qik-in-Touch can be found here.

Qik for iPhone submitted to App Store

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Well, Qik on iPhone has always been a topic of interest from our users since the first time we launched on iPhone a year or so back. Since then, we have made great strides to bring not only high quality video streaming from iPhones but also provide rich features like 1-tap sharing to your favorite social networks, location support, ability to playback videos and much more. Then with the launch of iPhone 3GS this summer, we submitted and got approved for Qik on the App Store to enable you to capture and then share your experience with your friends on your favorite social networks.

We have now taken the next step and submitted the Qik application that enables you to share your experience live from your iPhone for approval to App Store. So, now let’s see what happens :)

Qik for iPhone 3GS in App Store updated – now supports upload over cell networks

Monday, August 24th, 2009

The update for Qik for iPhone 3GS that we submitted has now been approved by Apple. With the new app from the App Store (version 3.98), you can now record videos and then upload and share them over both wifi and via the cell network.

So, give this version a try and let us know what you think by rating the application. As always, you can also email us at support@qik.com with your feedback, too.

Qik for iPhone 3GS – now live and free from the App Store!

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

You’ve been asking for it, and now it’s here: Qik for the iPhone 3GS can now be downloaded – for free! – directly from the App Store.

If you already have Qik on your iPhone, you should know that this version is a little different. Here’s how.

Upload videos from your iPhone’s Camera Roll

First, this version of Qik allows you to pull videos right from your iPhone 3GS Camera Roll and upload them to your Qik account. So if you’ve recorded videos with the iPhone 3GS native camera, you can share those via Qik, too. Qik is the only iPhone 3GS app to let you share videos from your camera roll straight to your blog, website, Facebook, YouTube, and all the other networks Qik integrates with.

Qik for iPhone 3GS

Automatic uploading

Once you’ve stopped recording, your video upload begins automatically – without the hassle of pushing any more buttons or filling out any form fields.

Shoot video in portrait or landscape mode

Qik is the first mobile video app to let you frame your videos either horizontally or vertically. w00t!

Location sharing while uploading video

Finally, Qik is the only iPhone 3GS mobile video app that lets you share your location while streaming video from your phone. So if you’re partying downtown, you don’t need to give your friends any address or directions – they can just check out the location information from your Qik stream to see where you are and join in the fun. (Of course, if you really don’t want them crashing the party, you can turn off the location sharing feature. :) )

NOTE: For now, this is a capture and upload app – not the low latency live video you’ve become used to with Qik. Qik for iPhone 3GS works over both wifi and the cell network.

It’s easy, it’s free, and it’s now on the App Store: Qik for iPhone 3GS. Check it out now, and please let us know how you like it by rating the app when you’ve had your fun. Happy Qikking!

View Qik videos from the notifications you receive on your iPhone

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Do you get your Qik notifications via Twitter, SMS, or email on your iPhone/iPod Touch?.

Well, now you can click the link directly from your iPhone/iPod Touch and playback the recorded video right from there.

Just earlier today we released a new version of our Symbian client that contains further optimizations for the lower end Nokia phones pertaining to videos with a lot of motion. Qikker Ari Burton of The Burton Report, downloaded this client, did a test and sent me a Direct Message (DM) using Twitter with a link to a video indicating that the test was a success. I was at a grocery store when Ari’s DM came in. I clicked the link in the DM to view the video (which looked good) and then clicked “Share” to share the results with our CTO, Nikolay. All this while buying milk from a grocery store. Now – this is really going to change the way I communicate with my friends!
