We were really encouraged by the positive feedback from the first alpha release of Qik for Android phones. (So was Google, apparently, as today we are a featured app in the Android Market. w00t!) So we’re curious to see how much you guys like the latest version, with several new features that we think are pretty sweet. Check out the demo video here, and read below for full details.
Sharing has become a lot more personal and intuitive in this
version through the Qik Speed Sharing bar.
The Qik Speed Sharing bar makes it fast and easy to let friends know you’re live or send a recorded video.
You can now create shortcuts to select friends or family
members from your phone contact list and place those shortcuts on the
Speed Sharing bar that appears in the bottom of the screen. These can
be either SMS or email contact details. The text messages are sent through Qik servers, saving you any possible charges from your mobile provider on SMS. The Speed Sharing area also displays those networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, for which the user has enabled sharing.
To add these shortcuts press Menu > Settings > Sharing >
Shortcuts or press Share and add from the Speed Sharing bar.
On-device video editing comes to Qik on Android!
You can capture videos offline, trim them, and then share as usual.
 
First, adjust the Qik settings so that you are recording offline. After you’ve finished Qikking in offline mode, press the video thumbnail that appears in the bottom left corner. This plays back the footage you just captured. Press the Trim button and you’ll see markers appear at either end of the screen. By moving those markers, you can select the start and end points of your Qik video. You can even play back the video to make sure you’re happy with your selection. Press “Done” to finish editing. When you’re back online, the video will automatically upload to your Qik account.
Plus:
* Link your Twitter account and enter your default Twitter message directly from the phone.
* From the Qik app on the phone you can now also choose whether to send all your videos to Facebook automatically or not.
