Turn your iPhone 2G and 3G into a video camera with Qik VideoCamera

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

After releasing Qik Live, which lets you share your experience live from any iPhone, we received feedback from a number of iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G owners that they’d like an easy way to record high quality videos locally and play them from the Camera Roll – just like the iPhone 3GS.

Qik VideoCamera, which is now available from the Apple App Store, does just that. It turns your iPhone 2G and 3G into a video camera that lets you:

  • Record videos with 352×288 resolution.
  • Export your videos to the Camera Roll, edit them and play them right from there
  • Upload and synchronize your videos with iPhoto – just by connecting your iPhone to your computer

Leveraging Qik’s award-winning encoding techniques and optimizations, Qik VideoCamera delivers the best frame rate and video resolution on iPhone 2G/3G while using much less space for storing your videos.

So if you have an iPhone 2G or 3G, download Qik VideoCamera and start recording high quality videos for only $0.99.

As usual, let us know your thoughts and comments by emailing us at support@qik.com.

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Ho Ho Ho!!

Well, the wait is finally over! Qik has been approved by Apple and is now available in the iPhone App Store – yay!! We are really excited that this approval came just in time for the holidays so you can share your holiday moments – LIVE from your mobile phone.

The app, called Qik Live (version 4.40), on the iPhone works on all the iPhones (iPhone 2g, iPhone 3g, and iPhone 3gs) and on all networks (3G and WiFi) enabling you to share what you are seeing with your friends, family and the world!

Share what you are seeing with your favorite social networks.
Share your Qiks with your favorite social networks, like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and others right from the phone. Just tap the middle of the screen after you have completed the video and press “Share”.

Share the experience privately only with people who matter.
Just tap the screen before recording and set the video to private. You can then share these videos via email and SMS only to people you want to send this too.

Show your location.
The Qik application on the iPhone is location-enabled, letting you friends track you live as you Qik. If you don’t want to show your location you can always turn this off from the Settings.

So, go ahead and download Qik Live from the App Store, start sharing your holiday moments and let us know what you think. Further, couple this with Qik-in-Touch and your friends and family will see you instantly from their desktop – the moment you go live from your iPhone.  More information about Qik-in-Touch can be found here.

It’s now easier to embed Qik into WordPress Blogs

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

We are always looking for ways to enable you to share your Qiks easily – anywhere. With that in mind, back in March we first introduced the ability to embed Qik videos easily to WordPress blogs, including your WordPress.com blog, using the [qik] shortcode. Now, thanks to WordPress and their 2.9 release - it has become even easier to embed your Qik videos in your self-hosted  or WordPress.com blogs.

With this new 2.9 release, just paste your Qik video URL into a new line, make sure it is not hyperlinked and that’s it. WordPress will automatically convert that into a embedded video when you view the post.

Update: You can even embed your live channel just by pasting your Qik profile URL.

For example:

This is a sample post to show how to embed Qik videos

http://qik.com/video/3423356

...and embed your live channel by using your profile URL

Now, that's simple :)

Don’t want to put the URL in a new line? No worries, just wrap the URL in the shortcode to get the same result.

As usual we love to hear from you. So, let us know your thoughts and comments by emailing support@qik.com.

Qik for Android updated: Capture in high res on Droid, better battery life and more…

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Earlier today Qik on Android was updated  with version 0.1.56. Apart from a number of bug fixes, better performance and better battery consumption, this includes:

Capture what you are doing in DVD quality:

A month or so back, we introduced a private beta to enable Droid users to capture in DVD resolution (720×480). Thanks to all the great feedback from our beta users, this is now available from the Android Market. You can selectively set this high resolution from the Settings in the client.

Please note that if you are using the private beta client for Droid, you’ll first need to uninstall the beta client and then install the new client from the Android Market.

Support for Chinese:

Qikkers in China can now experience the Qik client in Chinese. Just make sure your phone locale is set to Chinese and you are good to go.

As usual we are always eager to get your thoughts and feedback. So, give this a go and let us know what you think by sending an email to support@qik.com.

Qik for iPhone submitted to App Store

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Well, Qik on iPhone has always been a topic of interest from our users since the first time we launched on iPhone a year or so back. Since then, we have made great strides to bring not only high quality video streaming from iPhones but also provide rich features like 1-tap sharing to your favorite social networks, location support, ability to playback videos and much more. Then with the launch of iPhone 3GS this summer, we submitted and got approved for Qik on the App Store to enable you to capture and then share your experience with your friends on your favorite social networks.

We have now taken the next step and submitted the Qik application that enables you to share your experience live from your iPhone for approval to App Store. So, now let’s see what happens :)
