Take the Qik Super Bowl challenge and win!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

This Sunday, February 1, is Super Bowl XLIII. Super Bowl Sunday is almost like an annual holiday in the US – and this year is no different.

So we want to see your best Super Bowl videos on Qik. Whether you’ll be at the game in Tampa Bay or playing armchair quarterback at home, we’d love to see how you’ll be observing this most sacred of days on the sports calendar.

We’ve got a great prize pack of Qik swag and a $50 Sports Authority gift card for the best Qik video. Who knows? The runners-up just might get a little something for their efforts, too.

Here are some ideas for your Qik videos (just put “Super Bowl” in the title or description).

  • * Make your own Super Bowl commercial
  • * Show us your best (or funniest, most pathetic) cheerleading routines
  • * Give us your predictions on scores, who’ll be MVP, and who’s going to nab the biggest endorsement deal after the final whistle
  • * Invite us into your own Super Bowl party and share your snack smorgasbord with the Qik community
  • * Put on your very own halftime show on Qik (no “wardrobe malfunctions,” please!)

Again, just put “Super Bowl” in the title or description of your video so we can enter you into the competition.

Happy Qikking…and may the best team (and Qikker) win!

24 Hours @ Sundance with Ashton Kutcher & Kevin Rose!

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

What happens when you combine A-list Hollywood celebrities, the ultimate icon of Web 2.0, and a host of online media mavens…and then give them a bunch of potentially embarrassing challenges? We’ll find out this weekend when Qik, in partnership with Katalyst Media, launches the first ever live mobile reality show competition from the Sundance Film Festival.

Starting on Saturday, Ashton Kutcher and Digg‘s Kevin Rose will host 24 Hours @ Sundance live on Qik from Park City, Utah. Four contestants will compete with one another to complete the challenges issued to them by Ashton and Kevin, all with the assistance and encouragement of their viewers on Qik. Using Qik’s live chat feature, each contestant will be counting on their respective online communities to help them win the contest.

Our contestants come from a diverse set of niches of the online world. They are Nonsociety tech blogger Meghan Asha, VentureBeat editor Matt Marshall, Konsole Kingz founder CJ Peters, and Geek Entertainment TV host Irina Slutsky.

As Ashton says: “It’s kind of like, you know, on ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ you had one lifeline, and you had to call them on the phone. In our game, you have the Web at large as your lifeline.”

It all kicks off LIVE on Qik, from Sundance, starting Saturday. Check back here for more details over the coming days!
