The Lords of the Net

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

“Lords of the Net” – that’s the title of the article published in a local newspaper in Spain on how politicians and the political party CiU are using technology for their campaigns. The last paragraph in the article (PDF) refers to Qik:

“As far as CiU is concerned, they are using young blogger candidates such as Carles Campuzano and Jordi Xucla for a pioneering experience: the campaign live through Qik, a technical tool from an American company allowing candidates to follow the campaign from their mobile phones. This is a pilot, the first of its kind by a political party nationwide, using live streaming technology over 3G. Qik enables you to share live any video content on the web also for on-demand viewing at a later stage. CiU is doing so with the 2 Nokia N95 that Qik has lent them, and then they post it on their site (www.ciu.cat) under the area “The Campaign Live”.

Historic opening: High speed train between Madrid-Barcelona

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

The first high-speed train service between Madrid and Barcelona will begin on Feb 20, 2008. Reporters of ADN.es will be Qikking the much anticipated event.

Work on the line began more than a decade ago and, starting in 2003, high-speed trains went as far as Lerida, about 130 kilometers (80 miles) west of Barcelona, the capital of the Catalonia region. The final stretch to Barcelona has been delayed repeatedly, most recently when sink holes appeared in land over which the rail lines were to run. This also forced a shutdown of local commuter trains for several weeks.

Come and experience this historic moment live from the widgets below and also on on ADN.es pages here and here

While in Barcelona for the 3GSM conference, we met with some of the political parties in Spain and guess what – they were not only intrigued by Qik but also saw a use for it in their upcoming elections. Some of the candidates have already started using Qik and embedding this to their campaign site.
